"Our finest gifts we bring to lay before the king"... We want to honor Him. We yearn to do something, give something, bring something to the relationship.
"I am a poor boy too... I have no gift to bring, that's fit to give our King"... No act will bring us closer. Nothing we give or try to do will make Christ love us any more than He already does.
"Shall I play for you? On my drum?"... Let's use our Christ-given gifts for Him. To honor Him.
"Then He smiled at me, me and my drum"... All I want is for Him to smile upon me. Smile, because I am using what he has given me.
This is my personal interpretation of it... and it can certainly mean different things depending on the individual. I do, however, think it's amazing that after hearing the same song for years, it suddenly has depth and a new meaning.
How do I raise my child to know the love of God and the importance of Christ and what He did for all of us? It's a little overwhelming. I'm a little nervous. But I also know that Dave and I aren't alone.
While talking about this with Dave, and being honest about the pressure to teach Liddy all that I could on Christmas, he reminded me that it's not just one day. We need to encourage her and show her Christ's love all year and in all seasons. Whew. Pressure is off, at least a little, on December 25th. ;) I hope to help Liddy discover her spiritual gift(s) so that she can "play" for Him not only on Christmas, but throughout the entire year.
Christmas was wonderful this year. We started in Jackson and ended in Knoxville. Two Christmas celebrations with two amazing families. Blessed.
